Posten and Lockheed Martin UK ink new deal to improve further Sweden’s world class postal service
Havant, UK, Dec 10, 2013 - Postal customers in Sweden are set to benefit from further improvements in their service following an extension to the long term support contract between the country’s national postal distribution organisation, Posten, and Lockheed Martin UK.
Under the new contract Lockheed Martin UK will provide around the clock monitoring of the systems that control the Swedish mail processing operations. It will also provide a help desk and will distribute software updates and changes to address directories to synchronise with Posten’s requirements.
The support extension, spread over five years, has been combined with a new agreement for Lockheed Martin UK to consolidate its postal operations experience with Posten and to identify new, business enhancing projects to maintain the latter’s leadership position in Scandinavia. Together the two agreements are valued at more than £8 million.
“Our excellent Service Level Agreement (SLA) attainment over the years, coupled with our programme performance on major new projects, were major influences in Posten making this award,” said Andy Robertson, programme management director for Lockheed Martin UK Integrated Systems. “We also confidently expect the new framework agreement to generate additional Lockheed Martin business in conjunction with Posten.”
Lockheed Martin’s relationship with Posten spans more than ten years and underlines the Corporation’s reputation as a world leader in postal sorting solutions, including its role as a major supplier of address recognition technology to international markets.
The support extension follows a contract to refresh postal sorting technology placed with Lockheed Martin UK by Posten in 2012. As a result, new technology has been installed in one of two new mail centres and, during the remainder of 2013 and 2014, Lockheed Martin UK will transition the legacy system mail centres to a technically refreshed standard, and complete the second new mail centre.
Hanna Jonasson, Posten’s Head of Technology, added: “We are very pleased with the long term support and cooperation we have had from Lockheed Martin. They have helped us to develop our processes to take advantage of higher levels of automation.”
The support work will be centred in the Lockheed Martin Control Centre located in Havant, UK, and supported by Lockheed Martin subject matter experts. The framework activity will be performed in Havant with technical input as required from Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training experts in Owego, N.Y.
