Lockheed Martin Salutes the Military

At Lockheed Martin, "We never forget who we're working for." And in honor of every brave service member, the people of Lockheed Martin are working together — "United in Gratitude " — to show our appreciation and lend a helping hand.

The cause of liberty has always demanded sacrifice. For the men and women in uniform serving overseas and at home in these times of conflict, the sacrifices are many and oftentimes perilous.

To our service members, love of country is more than a slogan — it’s a way of life. Far from family, friends and familiar things, servicemen and women need to be reminded that the home fires do indeed burn brightly.

Lockheed Martin provides critical technology used by those serving in the fight for freedom. But for the 140,000 employees of Lockheed Martin, that is only the beginning of our commitment.

We are equally dedicated to supporting service members with programs that improve their lives and the lives of their families, enhance educational and training opportunities, and honor their selfless duty to country.  Lockheed Martin supports U.S. service members, as well as those from the United Kingdom and Canada, where we have significant numbers of employees.  Our support spans philanthropic contributions, fund-raising efforts, and volunteer activities.

Deployed service members receive care packages; military kids receive a book and a video of their deployed parent reading it to them; wounded troops use recreational activities as part of their physical and emotional recovery; and disabled veterans enjoy new careers at Lockheed Martin — these are just a few of the ways we help.

Lockheed Martin Military Fatherhood Award Winner Announced

Staff Sergeant Brian Booker of the Mississippi Army National Guard has been chosen to receive the Lockheed Martin Military Fatherhood Award™ at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 29, 2008. Conferred by the National Fatherhood Initiative, this is the second annual award. The 2007 recipient was Marine Gunnery Sergeant Kevin Andrade. The purpose of the award is to recognize the outstanding efforts of military fathers to stay engaged with their families while meeting their military missions, even through deployments.

Staff Sgt. Booker was chosen from over 300 nominees. The most important quality for the awardee to possess is an ongoing commitment and dedication to his children. Outstanding military fathers take extraordinary efforts to father from a distance during military separation, and go to great lengths to successfully balance mission requirements and their fathering role. They also are active to help other military fathers or military children who are separated from their fathers.

While the award is given to the father, the National Fatherhood Initiative's first recommendation for being a better dad is to respect their children's mother. Military fathers would not be successful without the steadfast dedication and support of our military moms.

A list of all nominees is on the National Fatherhood Initiative's web site.
