A Trophy's Trek Across the U.S.
For the second year in a row, the Armed Forces Bowl trophy has hit the open road to visit Lockheed Martin sites across the country. Reaching more than double the locations of its inaugural journey in 2015, the 2016 roadshow stretched from California to New York, stopping at U.S. military bases and each of our Business Areas. Twenty-eight stops in total, this second-annual trophy roadshow culminated in a final march back to Fort Worth, Texas, in time for the Friday, Dec. 23, bowl game.
“Talk about a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Joe LaMarca, vice president, Communications, for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics. “Not only did thousands of our employees get to see and touch the trophy the last few months, but we were able to offer the opportunity to our service members as well. They’re what this game is about, and I’m glad we could send the trophy out on another tour this year.”
As the trophy made its way across the country, it found itself among the snowcapped mountains of Colorado, in the line of fire at White Sands Missiles Range and in full pilot glory at Edwards AFB. Coordinating the trophy stop with pre-arranged Lockheed Martin events, the trophy appeared at two site family day activities, the Alliance Air Show in Texas and the Lockheed Martin Military/Veteran Forum in Bethesda, Maryland.
With another year of road tripping checked off its bucket list, this trophy is ready to plant roots in the Louisiana Tech trophy case.
Louisiana Tech clinched victory over the U.S. Naval Academy Dec. 23 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
An extended Thank You to our team members who hosted the trophy at their locations throughout the last few months. Your support made this roadshow a reality. Read more about the 2015 trophy roadshow.
