Lockheed Martin Announces Appointment of Two Executive Positions

Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] has announced that Edward S. Taft will assume the role of senior vice president of Human Resources, effective January 1, 2004. Additionally, Maryanne R. Lavan has been named vice president, Ethics and Business Conduct, for the corporation, effective immediately.
In his new position, Taft will oversee all human resources functions and initiatives. This includes responsibility for recruiting and retention, professional leadership development, employee training, benefits, and diversity initiatives. Taft began his career with Lockheed Martin in 1979, and has held several leadership roles within human resources, including his current position as vice president of HR Services. He will succeed Terry F. Powell, who recently announced plans for retirement, after 39 years of service.
In her new position, Lavan is responsible for overseeing corporate-wide efforts to promote a positive, ethical work environment for all employees and to support business practices that foster trust and confidence among customers, suppliers, shareholders, and local community members. Lavan joined Lockheed Martin in 1990 and has served as assistant general counsel for litigation and compliance and most recently as vice president and general counsel for the Electronic Systems business area. She succeeds Nancy Higgins, who recently left the corporation.
