LOCKHEED MARTIN AWARDED $20.6 MILLION FOR U.S. NAVY SURFACE FORCE'S AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 UNDERSEA WARFARE SYSTEM
MANASSAS, VA, 18-JUL-07 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] received two U.S. Navy contracts worth $20.6 million to provide integration engineering and engineering support for the AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 undersea warfare system.
Under the terms of the contracts, Aegis-equipped cruisers and destroyers will be updated to the latest AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 configuration. The system employs an open architecture business model using state-of-the-art commercial computing technology to achieve major performance gains over previous designs, at reduced cost. The U.S. Navy's goal is to achieve a single, common configuration to reduce system life cycle costs while allowing for rapid war fighting improvements.
The AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 is the U.S. Navy surface force’s undersea warfare combat system and is installed on all of the Navy’s Aegis-equipped cruisers and destroyers. Using a variety of underwater sensors, the system detects, classifies and localizes submarines and other undersea threats. It includes a hull-mounted sonar, towed array, a sonobuoy processing system and a fire-control system used to launch weapons against undersea targets, all integrated with the Lockheed Martin-produced Aegis Combat System.

Its capability is second to none.”
For this contract, Lockheed Martin has again teamed with Advanced Acoustic Concepts, Inc., a key developer and integrator of many of the functional performance improvements to the AN/SQQ-89 since 1999. The company also integrated and produced the system’s test bed to validate the advanced capabilities offered to the surface anti-submarine warfare community. Lockheed Martin’s Undersea Systems facility in Syracuse, NY and Advanced Acoustic Concepts, Inc. in Uniontown, PA, will manage the contracts, which are part of a multi-version AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 production and engineering program at those facilities.
Advanced Acoustic Concepts, Inc. is a distributed engineering firm headquartered in Hauppauge, NY, with 12 locations nationwide, including Uniontown, which serves as the company’s hardware integration and testing center.
