Lockheed Martin to provide UK with Second Phase of Joint Asset Management Engineering Solution Programme
LONDON, UK, 07/23/2008 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] will add new capabilities to the UK Ministry of Defence's Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions (JAMES) logistics support programme under a recent contract amendment valued at £75 million.
Designed by Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training & Support and first deployed in July 2005, JAMES currently manages more than 60,000 pieces of equipment for the British Army giving users and commanders the ability to identify the availability, status, condition, ownership and location of a piece of equipment in moments. The newest phase of the programme, called JAMES Land, will extend the system to include ground-based equipment used by the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, in addition to the British Army additional capabilities. It also will enhance existing diagnostic capabilities to provide comprehensive integrated logistics support for covered equipment.

Group Captain Barrie Thomson, Assistant Director, JAMES Programme, said, JAMES Land will provide a significant increase in capability for the MOD and builds on the engineering and asset management capabilities that have already been deployed. It has been successful because the system gives us the right information at the right time, and gives commanders unprecedented information about the status of equipment in a straightforward manner.
The system provides additional data for maintenance, repair, modification and overhaul activities and increases the scope of equipment managed by the system to include nearly all equipment in the land environment used by the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force. It expands maintenance processes from simply indicating equipment faults to identifying the task needed, determining spare requirements, planning resources required, recording data on the maintenance of the equipment and spares consumed, and tracking the equipment when it returns to service.
JAMES has proven its supreme capability over the last four years, with more than 9,000 users processing as many as one million transactions a month. Increment two will bring new mobility, new functionality and much improved data fidelity, giving users clear visibility across a complex and busy fleet, explained Debra Palmer, vice president of Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training & Support's Enterprise Logistics Solutions. JAMES is becoming the benchmark for logistics information technology systems. The system turns data into knowledge that can be the deciding factor on the battlefield.
