Lockheed Martin Employees Show Support For U.S. Armed Forces Through USO Care Package Event

Owego, NY, 10/19/2009 -- More than 150 Lockheed Martin employees and their family members stuffed 10,088 care packages on October 17 for deployed U.S. military personnel as part of the United Service Organizations' Operation USO Care Package program. The care packages will be provided to troops currently serving in and preparing for deployment to Afghanistan.

The Operation USO Care Package program provides special packages - containing materials such as magazines, playing cards, shampoo, CDs, power bars, sunscreen, and other items - to troops away from home. Several of the packages stuffed at this event included handwritten messages from Lockheed Martin employees, expressing their gratitude to the servicemen and servicewomen.

Keith Speidel, vice president of Finance for Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego, commented, "The overwhelming response of our employees at the event was meaningful and heart-warming. We are very proud and supportive of our troops and this is one more way we can let them know that they are always in our thoughts."

Since February 2004, Lockheed Martin has been a sponsor of the Operation USO Care Package program through "Lockheed Martin Employees Care," an online program accepting donations for care package materials. To date, Lockheed Martin employees have donated more than $1.3 million and stuffed 205,675 care packages.

Operation USO Care Package is the only program of its kind recognized by the White House and the Department of Defense due to the program's strict adherence to security requirements. The USO works closely with the U.S. Department of Defense to distribute care packages where the need is greatest.
