Lockheed Martin Recognized For Energy And Carbon Management

BETHESDA, Md., September 19, 2011 --

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) recognized Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) as one of the top companies for climate change disclosure practices in the 2011 CDP Global 500 Report.

CDP named Lockheed Martin as one of 23 companies worldwide on its Global Disclosure and Performance Leadership indices for 2011. Lockheed Martin earned a score of 90 for carbon disclosure practices in the Sept. 14 report—up from 76 last year—and achieved an "A" rating for carbon performance. CDP works with investors globally to advance the investment opportunities and reduce the risks posed by climate change by asking almost 6,000 of the world's largest companies to report on their climate strategies, green house gas emissions and energy use.

"We're pleased that the Carbon Disclosure Project has recognized Lockheed Martin's ability to analyze our carbon footprint and identify ways to shrink it," said Sondra Barbour, Lockheed Martin Chief Information Officer in charge of Energy, Environment, Safety & Health. "Our investments in energy efficiency are helping us not only improve the sustainability of our products and operations, but also lower infrastructure costs. Our ‘Go Green' culture is driving innovation and environmental stewardship with far reaching impacts for our business, our customers and the communities where we live and work."

Lockheed Martin is on track to meet its sustainability goal by reducing water, energy and waste to landfill by 25 percent from 2007 levels by the end of 2012, as reported earlier this year in the Corporate Energy, Environment, Safety and Health Report.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 126,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation's 2010 sales from continuing operations were $45.8 billion.
