Lockheed Martin to Provide Coast Guard With Secure Mobile Access to Electronic Medical Records
MONAX-derived Solution Enables Records to be Wirelessly Updated
WASHINGTON, D.C., October 24, 2012 – A wireless solution developed by Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] will soon be used by U.S. Coast Guard medical providers and health care staff to update electronic records on wireless devices. The U.S. Coast Guard selected Lockheed Martin’s MONAXOffice, to accelerate accessing electronic medical records that will help improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of health care delivery to 42,000 active duty men and women. This contract is valued at $2.3 million, with one base year and four one-year options.
“We worked closely with the Coast Guard’s to fully understand the challenge and then tailored the solution to meet their specific needs for security and performance while incorporating cost-effective commercial technologies,” said Macy Summers, vice president of Advanced Development & Ventures at Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions-Defense.
MONAXOffice is a COTS-based solution that provides the wireless infrastructure, allowing assured usage of mobile devices in highly secure Enterprise settings. Both the network and security architecture are an extension of the solutions developed for MONAX, Lockheed Martin’s deployable cellular system. This mobile interface solution will enable the Coast Guard’s Integrated Health Information System (IHiS) staff to wirelessly access and update electronic records at the point of care. MONAXOffice will provide a secure, mobile link to IHiS with Common Access Card (CAC) authentication for tablets and Smartphones.
MONAXOffice will include wireless networks at each clinic that will be integrated with the Coast Guard’s existing core network; centralized wireless network management capability; tablet devices; hardware for Common Access Card (CAC) authentication on tablets and smart phones; and mobile device management software.
As part of this pilot project, Lockheed Martin will install MONAXOffice at the Coast Guard’s main Operations System Center and three clinics, and provide training as to how to integrate the system in other locations. The Coast Guard will subsequently implement MONAXOffice at 43 additional Coast Guard clinics.
