Local Lockheed Martin Employee Honored with Women of Color Managerial Leadership Award
ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 21, 2013 – Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] employee Sarah Travelute, senior subcontracts manager, was honored recently for her career accomplishments during the 18th Annual Women of Color Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Conference.
The conference, held in Dallas, celebrates the significant achievements of women of color in scientific and technical careers. Travelute is among 43 Lockheed Martin employees who were recognized during the national forum.
“Sarah leads an exceptional team that has a reputation for hard work and high efficiency,” said Patrick Sunderlin, vice president of procurement at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “She coaches and trains her team to deliver excellence. Sarah is an inspiration.”
Travelute leads a team responsible for $400 million in supply chain purchases annually. Over time, her team has received 24 internal company awards and a U.S. Army award for lean six sigma efficiency initiatives in supply chain management.
“I had nine Native American siblings and we were all separated, abandoned and placed into foster care,” Travelute said during the Women of Color STEM Conference. “Any of those conditions could kill a dream. And it was through the power of learning that my dreams were revived. Learning is the pathway that led me straight to tonight’s success. And I am grateful.”
During her career, Travelute has spent countless hours mentoring Lockheed Martin employees and volunteering in her local community. She was recognized in 2006 with the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Travelute graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Central Florida.
