Lockheed Martin Integrates Cyber Security Standards into Open Source Platform
GAITHERSBURG, Maryland, May 8, 2014 – Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] announced its successful integration of the latest cyber security standards into an open source software platform. The capability enables the unique and automated sharing of cyber threat indicators and malware between organizations and cyber sensors. This translates into faster machine-to-machine sharing of information at speeds up to 40GB/second with minimal latency.
In partnership with the Open Information Security Foundation (OISF), Lockheed Martin engineers integrated the latest cyber threat communications standards into OISF’s Suricata Engine, an open source intrusion detection and intrusion prevention system (IDS/IPS). This integration extends Suricata’s robust capabilities to leverage cross-organization data sharing to communicate cyber threat information directly to the Suricata cyber sensor.

Our collaboration is already well underway to build several very exciting new features into Suricata to ensure yet another great set of tools in the network defenders arsenal,” said Kelley Misata, vice president of community outreach for OISF.

The result of Lockheed Martin’s work with OISF and the Suricata technology is an effective and flexible solution that enhances the current TAXII, STIX, and CybOX baselines for a capability that Lockheed Martin will put to test on its own networks.
