Exoskeleton Technologies


Exoskeleton technologies can bring new capabilities to fighting forces and improve endurance and safety in industrial settings. Lockheed Martin continues refinement of next-generation products with primary focus on unpowered exoskeletons for industrial use. These lightweight suits are designed to increase in industrial productivity and can prevent common workplace injuries.

Industrial Exoskeletons
The FORTIS exoskeleton is an unpowered, lightweight exoskeleton developed for industrial environments. By transferring the weight of heavy hand tools or other loads through the exoskeleton to the ground, FORTIS — the Latin word for strength — enhances an operator’s strength and endurance.

Military Exoskeletons
Lockheed Martin developed the Human Universal Load Carrier (HULC) for the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC). In a series of tests, NSRDEC evaluated the potential for exoskeleton technology to alleviate strain and fatigue for soldiers who carry heavy loads over long distances. We are building on this experience to innovate further in the realm of exoskeleton technology.
