Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company was selected on Mar. 11, 2010 by GeoEye, Inc. to build the company’s next-generation, high-resolution, Earth-imaging satellite and the associated command and control system, known as GeoEye-2.

With launch scheduled to support start of operations in 2013, Lockheed Martin is developing GeoEye-2 under a fixed price contract to support the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s (NGA) EnhancedView commercial imagery program.

On Aug. 6, 2010, NGA awarded a contract worth up to $3.8 billion for the EnhancedView program, which will provide products and services that will help meet the increasing geospatial intelligence needs of the intelligence community and Department of Defense.

GeoEye-2 will provide map-accurate images with a new, high-resolution camera provided by ITT. In addition to delivering critical geospatial situational awareness and global security information to intelligence analysts, war fighters and decision makers, GeoEye's commercial users will also benefit from access to imagery from GeoEye-2.
