With a partnership dating back to the 1930s, Japan is Lockheed Martin’s largest international market. This lasting relationship includes capabilities such as air and missile defense, government and commercial satellites, maritime surveillance and much more.
Today, one of Lockheed Martin’s latest program offerings to Japan is the F-35A Lightning II conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) variant for the F-X fighter jet competition. As the world’s only 5th Generation multirole fighter, the F-35 will help Japan provide regional stability and transform Japan’s Defense Industry.
Other important programs include:
BSAT-3c/JCSAT-110R and GX Rocket- This satellite is scheduled for customer delivery in late September 2012, and the “GX” rocket, through a partnership with IHI Aerospace, is scheduled to be in service by 2011.
P-3 Orion - Produced through a partnership with NEC Corporate in Tokyo, Japan uses the P-3 Orion as a tactical aircraft for coastline monitoring, reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare.
PAC-3 - This system will provide essential upgrades to meet Japan’s air and missile defense priorities. It will be locally produced by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) - Manufactured in Japan, this system includes launchers, rockets and trainers.
Aegis Weapon Systems - Aegis provides four of Japan’s KongoÌ-class destroyers and two Atago-class destroyers with advanced sea, air and undersea threat detection capabilities.
MK 41 Vertical Launching System - Locally produced by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. This system is used on Japanese destroyers.
F-35 EOTS - Embedded in the F-35, EOTS is the latest generation infrared sensor technology.
M-TADS/PNVS (Arrowhead) is the advanced electro-optical fire control system that AH-64 Apache helicopter pilots use for safe flight in day, night, or bad weather missions. M-TADS/PNVS advanced technology improves system performance by over 150 percent. Reliability increases more than 150 percent while maintenance actions decrease approximately 60 percent. Over 1100 systems have been delivered.
The LONGBOW system is built by a Joint Venture of Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman. U.S. Army testing shows integrated capabilities enhance the Apache lethality fourfold and survivability sevenfold. The LONGBOW Fire Control Radar (FCR) rapidly and automatically searches, detects, locates, classifies, and prioritizes multiple moving and stationary targets on land, water and in the air in all weather and battlefield conditions from standoff ranges. High system reliability and two-level maintenance maximize operational availability and reduce support costs.
