Lockheed Martin Inspires Next Generation Of Science and Technology Leaders During National Engineers Week

Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] Central Florida engineers and scientists will reach out to more than 3,000 local students as part of National Engineers Week, Feb. 20-26.

Throughout the week, employees at Lockheed Martin's Missiles and Fire Control, and Global Training and Logistics businesses will demonstrate to students across all grade levels how engineering impacts everyday life and career possibilities resulting from studying science and math.

"Lockheed Martin is committed to supporting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education across the country, including right here in Central Florida," said Dale Bennett, President of Lockheed Martin Global Training and Logistics. "In addition to National Engineers Week efforts, our year-round Engineers in the Classroom program builds on employee volunteerism, improves schools in our communities and introduces the next generation of innovators to the wonders of math and science."

Students will see engineering in action during tours covering technologies such as robotics, simulators and virtual training environments. Lockheed Martin employees will also visit area elementary, middle and high schools during the week to demonstrate how interests in math and science can lead to fulfilling engineering careers.

Lockheed Martin STEM support in Central Florida includes sponsorship and mentorship for six FIRST Robotics competition teams, volunteer leaders and mentors for the Lockheed Martin/Family YMCA Technology Center, and formal partnerships with 11 Central Florida K-12 schools. The corporation dedicates 50 percent of corporate giving annually to education programs.
