At Lockheed Martin, we’re grateful for the dedication and sacrifice of our veterans and are committed to providing a workplace where they can thrive. Army Reserve Captain and Early Career Recruiter, Kiara Searles, exemplifies this commitment. Here, she shares four powerful lessons from her five years of military service that continue to shape her work—and demonstrate how Lockheed Martin supports veterans as they transition to meaningful civilian careers.

How You Do One Thing is How You Do Everything

In the Army, Kiara handled personnel records and managed assignments with precision. She brings that same focus to recruiting, helping candidates navigate hiring with care.

I make sure that my fellow soldiers are squared away to help maintain efficiency and effectiveness within the Army. When I’m recruiting for Lockheed Martin, I’m helping prospective hires carry out their mission too: getting on a promising career path. Staying focused on the mission is something that guides me in the reserve and in the office.

Lockheed Martin’s mission-oriented approach makes it a natural fit for Kiara, allowing her military skills to shine.

If You’re Committed Enough, You’re Capable Enough

One of Kiara’s proudest moments in the Army came when a one-star general honored her leadership with a coin for excellence. As officer in charge of mobilizing over 100 soldiers, she faced unexpected challenges, including stepping in when her noncommissioned officer in charge encountered issues. Kiara’s focus was clear: ensure her soldiers were ready and prepared.

This experience taught her that commitment drives capability—a lesson she brings to Lockheed Martin. In her recruiting role, she’s dedicated to helping candidates succeed, applying the same mission-focused mindset she developed in the Army.

It’s Not Where You Are, But Who You Are, That Matters

Military service often means missing family milestones, which has taught Kiara to prioritize what matters most.

Coming to the States from Germany, and moving around as an Army brat, I’ve learned the value of family. When I’m away for missions, I miss celebrating with them, but they support me unconditionally.

Lockheed Martin’s culture of inclusion and work-life balance helps veterans like Kiara transition more easily, with support for both career and family.

True Discipline Never Disappears

Kiara initially welcomed the break from daily physical training after college, but soon realized discipline is core to who she is.

ROTC required PT every day, and once I didn’t have to do it, I didn’t want to. But I quickly realized that structure is essential. Early-morning PT feels natural and keeps me grounded.

Lockheed Martin values the discipline veterans bring, encouraging employees to be their best. For veterans, it’s a place where their skills and experiences are truly appreciated.

Lockheed Martin offers a supportive community where military values are celebrated, making it an ideal place for veterans to continue making an impact.

Lockheed Martin is committed to empowering the military community by fostering a supportive culture, providing career growth opportunities, and supporting initiatives that honor and uplift veterans and military families. We believe in recognizing and advancing military talent at every level and ensuring that service members and their families have the resources they need to thrive in the workplace.
