10 Third Quarter 2023 Highlights
1. Historic Space Mission Success
NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft, that we designed and built, has delivered samples to Earth that it collected during its historic seven-year mission to asteroid Bennu, a carbon-rich asteroid that could hold clues about the development of the solar system.
2. Advancing 21st Century Security
Our President and CEO, Jim Taiclet, testified before the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Cyber, Information Technologies and Innovation and emphasized the importance of 21st Century Security, an initiative that harnesses digital technologies like 5G, AI and distributed cloud computing into the national defense enterprise to deliver more advanced capabilities faster and with greater value for integrated deterrence.
3. Partnering for All-Domain Decision Superiority
We formed a strategic partnership with the Australian Defense Force to steward AIR6500 Phase 1 (AIR6500-1). This first-of-its-kind system will provide greater situational awareness and defence against increasingly advanced air and missile threats, as well as give the ADF increased levels of interoperability with the United States and allied partners.
4. Successful Open Systems Approach
Sikorsky’s RAIDER X® digital backbone drives success for the Army’s Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA). This innovation has enabled third parties to independently integrate capability into the system, cut the effort to introduce these capabilities by almost 75 percent and increase software development productivity by 50 percent, compared to traditional methods. These efforts will save the Army time, money and complexity in an effort to outpace threats.
5. Revolutionizing Nuclear Thermal Propulsion
We are building the cutting-edge engine for DARPA and NASA's joint DRACO Project Technology that will help enable humans to travel to Mars. The project will represent a rapid advancement in propulsion technology to benefit exploration and national defense.
6. Javelin’s Expanding Impact Around the Globe
By investing in long-lead supply chain parts and equipment needed to support higher rates of production, the Javelin program has a well-formed development roadmap for the future with several potential new international customers lined up and a handful of additional platform integration opportunities.
7. Strengthening Space Deterrence
We were awarded a contract to build 36 Tranche 2 Transport Layer (T2TL) Beta satellites for the Space Development Agency (SDA). T2TL is part of an overarching plan to strengthen deterrence with more resilient space architectures for beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) targeting, data transport, and advanced missile detection and tracking.
8. Leveraging High Energy CT Scan Technology
Our engineers are using high-energy CT and powerful 3-D/4-D X-ray technology to keep our customers ahead of ready. With high-energy CT, the team continues to innovate, maintain and update modern solutions to deliver capabilities quickly when our customers need them most for their rapidly evolving missions.
9. Highest Powered Laser Meets New Benchmark
We will scale our laser technology to a new benchmark: a 500 kW-class laser, the most powerful laser we have produced, topping its 300 kW-class laser power level developed under a contract from the Department of Defense’s Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research & Engineering, OUSD (R&E).
10. Innovating with 5G Commercial Technology
In close partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps, we have proven that quickly evolving 5G commercial technology can be leveraged in near real-time to solve current and emergent mission challenges. This is a critical step in ensuring our customers are getting secure data ahead of emerging threats.
